Degrees

The ribbon is entirely sewn around the cape now, and I've gone through with needle and thread to baste down those underparts that were missed by the machine. All in all, I could nearly call the garment complete- if it weren't for the hooks and eyes.

Note the obvious overlap. Though which side
is over which changes through the anime.

I considered, at first, using white frogs for fasteners, but eventually decided against that idea. There had been enough artistic license take with this cape that I was unable to justify any more. An invisible zipper was out of the question for multiple reasons: the least of which not being the fact that Julia's cape clearly overlaps beneath the collar. Obviously hooks and eyes were the safest bet.

There is one problem with this though: I do not have in my immediate possession the appropriate eyes for this situation. For things to lay properly, and be invisible, a straight eye must be used. At this moment, I only have loops eyes, as I forgot most off my hooks and eyes at my parents' place. I have sewn on the hooks, which are pretty much universal, and intend to drop by the fabric store tomorrow in order to pick up what I need.

Once those eyes are sewn on the cape, the only construction left will be the belt. Note to self: remember to buy gold braid tomorrow too. Admittedly, I'm still up in the air about how I will create that blue gem, but we can focus on the rest of the belt before we reach that point.
