Julia's belt is a bit of an odd conglomeration of items I had about my house. I did not feel like waiting to go find something else that would have worked, so searched about for things that would be suitable. I took some step by step images during the creation:
Chopped off the end of a Styrofoam ball
Covered the ball in plastic wrap for a smoother, less porous surface
Painted the plastic wrap covered Styrofoam with enamel (aka nail polish)
Estimating the amount of braid that will be needed
Drew the cutting line for the rounded edge
Got out the 'stay where you belong, dang it!' tape, to keep the braid in position
From there I taped the braid down, positioned the cording for the tie, and stitched it all to the belt. A row of the braid was also glued to the dried styrofoam. The belt itself ties, then the "buckle" is pinned to the cording. I gouged out some of the Styrofoam from the back so a pin would fit without being obvious.
This is the other picture I have of the cosplay right now. Once again, no face, but this time it's because I wasn't going to have my dark roots show beneath the white wig. Ugly. >.> Better pictures to come.
