Well that was a... lovely hiatus. My apologies. It is occasionally necessary to detach myself from my sewing machine and participate in the real world. Some of it isn't so great, but I was able to spend sometime with family, and see a close friend before she left for 18 months, so it was worth it, all in all.
But let's get on with it, right? I am sorry that my first post in so long is accompanied with a cell phone picture, but it's all I can manage at the moment.
While I was home I finally watched Tron: Legacy. I'm a huge fan of the original, having watched it since I was old enough to sit up and look at the TV, but I was pretty skeptical about this new one. Combine my hesitancy with the fact that I don't go to the theater or watch movies at home unless someone forces me too, it took my three quarters of a year to get around to seeing it. And yeah, I regret not seeing to sooner. Moreover, animation next year? with both Bruce Boxleitner and Elijah Wood? *epic swoon* I am so on track now. And then there's Quorra. Which brings me to the whole point of this long-winded background story: guess what I'm working on for Halloween?!
Yes. Because the picture of the Identity Disks didn't totally give it away. I've already purchased most of the needed supplies, including: lycra for the under-shirt and under-leggings; pseudo-leather lycra for the leggings (it's pretty thin, which is why I'm going with two layers on everything); craft foam; and silver yu-du ink.
I will be pulling out my trusty
Yu-Du machine and silk screen a hexagon pattern to some of the lycra.
I've already produced the appropriate layout on my computer, and just
need to transfer it to a screen.
The lighting, of course, is
going to be the trickiest point. My brother and I are looking into
Electroluminescent Tape, over EL wire or LED. Instead of adhering it to
the surface, the lighting will be placed in a clear vinyl casing-
meaning there will be less bubbling to worry about. =)
Of course,
Quorra isn't the only exciting project going on right now, Lulu's
already on track. My progress pictures for her are on my camera and
probably won't be uploaded for a few days, but she'll look fantastic
when done! And I can't wait to see what Silurian does with the lace and
accessories! Look forward to pictures!
And Saboten Con is this weekend! So it's likely this will be the only post until Monday. Check out Cosplay Conspiracy on Tumblr for pictures in the mean time!
