Catching Up!

I hate that "down to the wire" last minute sort of stuff. Not that I don't work fantastically under pressure, but it leaves me no time to update anything. And now I'm behind...

First, Lulu is pretty much done. Silurian and I missed each other, thanks to my tire blowing out, and so I wasn't able to hand it off to her before Halloween. Bummer. It needs the lace that Sil was working on, and the belts still need to be attached, but all the rest of it is done.

I painted the interior of the of the skirts pleather, in lieu of lining it. Painting was easier, and less expensive- albeit, a bit messy. The corset is finally done, after multiple attempts to obtain the correct bias tape. Oh my gosh, that was a pain. And the eyelets are installed, twelve sets total up the back. All in all, I'm proud of how well she turned out.

I was, of course, down to the wire with two costumes. Arwen is nearly complete. I've worn her (incomplete) to two functions.

The first function, our second "Cosplay Day at ASU", went well. We had some 8-10 people there (depending on the time), and was a blast. On the other hand, I hope we don't get too clique-ish, if you know what I mean. If the whole point is to invite people to come and enjoy the afternoon with us, we don't want to make them feel unwelcome.

The biggest issue with Arwen at CD@ASU was the neckline. I was rushing the night before to get everything done, and decided to make a short cut neckline and fix it later. I cut a strip of fabric on the bias, so that it would stretch well, top stitched the lace to it, then attached it to the underdress. It worked, but I definitely replaced it. Rather that picking all of the lace off, especially since I still had plenty, I used this strip of fabric to make a small purse.

Since then I have also extended the upper sleeves. For the dress, all that now remains is to add the last of the silver trim, reattach the lower sleeves, and add a longer zipper to the underdress. Nothing to difficult, or time consuming.

The other part I have to focus on is the circlet. I've been cheating and canabalized Sarah's circlet, attaching Arwen's butterflies to it temporarily. No one has noticed the difference- or, at least no one has said anything to me, but I don't like it. I don't think Aragorn or Jareth would find it very amusing either, for that matte... ;)

I have made the butterflies out of silver sculpy, and have convinced my brothers to teach me how to solder so I can make the rest of the head piece out of wire. The goal is to have that done my Taiyou Con in January.
