Princess' Slippers

When I wore Arwen to the second Cosplay Day at ASU, I took no matching shoes with me. All I had was my pair of white birkenstock sandals. I wore these for only a few minutes before removing them and going barefoot for the remainder of the afternoon. While I own several pairs of shoes, not one of them matched the dress I made- not even enough to be passable. It was perfectly obvious that something else would have be made.

In the movie Liv Tyler wears a pair of slippers made of the same material as her dress, beaded and all. I initially considered purchasing a pair of Chinese slippers from the cultural center, but decided to try my hand at making a set myself.

For the first time in my life, I purchased a pair of flip flops (and I can't stand flip flops), then cut off the straps and glued the plugs in place. I then traced these bases on some of the penne velvet, and cut the these pieces out. The pieces were cut larger so that they could be folded over the edges to hide the black, then were glued to the flip flops.

While those were curing I cut upper pieces, also of the penne, using another pair of sandals as a pattern. I cut four of these, and two also of interfacing. The interfacing was attached to one pair, and lace top stitched to the others. I sewed these together on the top most side, turned them about, ironed them flat, and basted the rest together.

From there I glued the "tops" to the "bottoms" and pinned them through to ensure they would be re situate themselves. The last step was to glue some ribbon around the soles to cover the raw edges.
For all intents and purposes, they don't look too bad, though I did have to glue some poster board to them to keep the uppers in shape. I have never been good with clogs though, and when i wore them to the Regional YSA Halloween FHE last week, they floped all over creation. In order to keep them where they belong (i.e. on my feet) I will be attaching some clear elastic to go over the heels. Not bad for just throwing them together though.
